In 5-10 years time (or less) the impact of AI related technologies on everything we do will be significant, from automating manual processes even to more complex knowledge work like coding. It’s happening now, and I wonder whether our education system is taking this into account now, whether it has the agility to adapt the curriculum as needed.
Will we be pondering where the next generation of AI expertise will come from as we currently do with software and coding skills? I think we should equip our young people with the skills of the future now or we will always be playing catch up.
I’ve said many times that Wales in particular has the ability to make big changes quickly and I think this is an area of emerging technology that we should look at embedding into learning pathways and also thought needs to be given to support our teachers.
It will touch everything we do, so let’s start looking at how we develop those skills and get ahead of the curve and maybe see it as an opportunity for growth. I predict that AI will eat software just as software ate the world.
